What is Ninoy Aquino Parks & Wildlife Center?

Nestled in the heart of Quezon City, Philippines, lies a haven of natural splendor and ecological wonder—the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center. This sprawling 22.7-hectare sanctuary stands not only as a tribute to the late Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. but also as a vibrant testament to the country's rich biodiversity and commitment to conservation.

Established in 1970, this urban oasis was initially crafted to serve as a zoo and botanical garden. Over the years, its purpose evolved, transforming into a multifaceted institution dedicated not only to showcasing diverse flora and fauna but also to environmental education, research, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

As visitors step foot into this lush sanctuary, they are greeted by a symphony of sights and sounds—the gentle rustling of leaves, the vibrant colors of flowers, and the calls of various bird species that find refuge within its confines. One of the center's highlights is its diverse collection of Philippine flora, boasting over 2,000 plant species, including rare and endangered ones, carefully curated in themed gardens that reflect the country's rich biodiversity. Visitors can explore the park's winding paths and see over 100 wildlife species, including Philippine deer, monitor lizards, and water birds like the Philippine duck and the Philippine swamphen.

Beyond its botanical marvels, the center is home to a wide array of indigenous and exotic wildlife. Walking along its winding paths, visitors can encounter various animal species, including Philippine eagles, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. The wildlife rescue and conservation efforts undertaken here play a crucial role in protecting endangered species and rehabilitating animals rescued from illegal wildlife trade or injured in their natural habitats.

Moreover, the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center serves as a green lung within the bustling metropolis of Quezon City. Its serene lakes, jogging paths, and picnic areas provide a refuge for city dwellers seeking respite from the urban hustle and bustle.

In addition to being a popular tourist destination, the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center also hosts educational programs and workshops designed to raise awareness on environmental preservation and wildlife conservation.
